Volleyball Sweeps Opening Tri-Match

BEL AIR, Md. – The Harford Women's Volleyball team came out with two big wins in their season opening tri-match, sweeping Beaver County 3-0 before edging out MD JUCO rival Howard, 3-2 in the finale.
 
Harford 3, Beaver County 0
The Fighting Owls dominated their opening match of the season, making quick work of the visiting Titans in three sets. Harford beat Beaver County 25-10, 25-13 and 25-15, paced by Mary Snow who racked up 11 kills. Snow was successful on 69% of her kill attempts while also chipping in a pair of blocks.
 
Hannah Roussey kept the Fighting Owl attack rolling, assisting on 21 kills while Rebekah Hanshaw led the team with 11 digs.

Harford 3, Howard 2
Despite playing with nine out of 10 players being freshman, Harford (2-0, 1-0 MD JUCO) showed a ton of fight, coming back from down 2-1 against Howard to force a fifth set. The Fighting Owls built a 7-2 lead in the early going of the determining set and finished strong to complete the sweep of the tri-match.
 
Down 2-1 in the match, Harford pulled away late in set four to force a fifth set. With the game tied at 18, the Fighting Owls scored seven of the next eight points to win the set. Harford also trailed 11-6 in the opening set and put together a run to get back in the set. Down 16-19 late in the set, Harford scored the last nine points to get on the board first. Kyning Tillinghast gave the Dragons fits with her serve on eight of the last nine points.
 
Snow and Jenna Hathazi notched 10 kills each to lead the attack. Snow also had five aces in the match while Tillinghast finished with four. Tillinghast and Phoenix Offutt both had three blocks on defense while Hanshaw was racked up a game-high 23 digs in the contest.
 
Harford will play their next eight matches away from the friendly confines of the APGFCU Arena beginning with matches against Baltimore City and Ocean County on Saturday and a match against Southern Maryland on Sunday as part of the Dragon Invitational hosted by Howard.
