HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Harford started the game with a quintet of players that rarely get the starting nod as they looked to give some opportunities to key bench players.
  • The Fighting Owls came out flat and coach Smelkinson was quick to insert the regular starters into the game just four minutes in with Harford trailing by three.
  • With the score at 24-17 in favor of the home team, Harford went on a 29-4 run as they were able to create some separation.
  • The second half was methodical for the Fighting Owls as they were able to cruise to a victory in their first game of 2017.

GAME NOTES
  • Harford shot 75% from behind the arc in the first half and 55% for the game.
  • Trent McCallum continues to impress at both ends of the court as he led the team with 19 points as well as 7 steals to move him up to 11th in steals this season in the NJCAA Division I.
  • Isaiah White returned to the Fighting Owls after missing the last five games with a lower body injury and scored 14 points with a trio of treys.
  • Malik Jones also scored 14 points in his first start of the season.
  • Mychal Stefanides found his shooting stroke in the game, scoring 11 points on 4-4 shooting from the field with three of those coming from long range.
  • The big men in blue also played well as Dom Keyes finished with 11 points, Jalen Thompson added 9, Dez Brown had 7, and Juanir Moore scored 6. That quartet helped the Fighting Owls dominate the boards as Harford out-rebounded the Hornets 47-26 with the previously mentioned forwards accumulating 30 of those.

UP NEXT
  • The Fighting Owls will play arguably their most important regular season game of the year this Friday, January 6th as they take on the Baltimore City Panthers at 7:30 pm.
  • The Panthers are 8-5 on the season and 2-0 in the conference with wins over Montgomery and Chesapeake.
