Harford Earns Big Win Over CCBC Essex in Tri-match

  • The Short Story: The Fighting Owls came from behind to earn an important conference victory over CCBC Essex before falling to Potomac State in the night cap of the tri-match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Harford struggled mightily in the opening two sets of a key conference match against nearby Essex as they fell behind 2-0.
  • The Fighting Owls turned it around quickly in the third set as they went on an early 9-2 run.
  • After falling behind 19-16, Harford won the last nine pointss in a row including a couple of kills by Raechel Bowman to go with kills by Julia Gatch and Jenna Hathazi to win the third set.
  • The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair that was once again decided by a late Harford run to close it out on a cheeky Olivia Manraksa kill.
  • Despite Harford going into the deciding set with all of the momentum, it was Essex who jumped out to a 5-1 lead before Harford responded by winning six of seven points including a trio of Kyning Tillinghast kills to take the lead.
  • Needing a couple more points to complete the comeback, Savannah Meyers stepped up in the clutch as she is prone to do and slammed home a couple of kills to give Harford a huge conference victory.
  • After Essex was swept by Potomac State, it was Harford's turn to take a run at one of the top volleyball teams in the region.
  • Harford went on a huge eight point run to take a 15-9 lead in the first set, but Potomac State used a couple of five point streaks of their own to take the first set.
  • That was the closest the Fighting Owls came against the powerhouse Catamounts as Harford lost the match in straight sets.

UP NEXT
  • Harford will stay on friendly grounds as they host Allegany on Thursday, October 5 starting at 6 PM.
  • The Trojans are 1-14 on the year and 1-4 in the conference with their lone win coming against Anne Arundel as Allegany is currently on a 12 match losing streak.
