HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Owls went into the game with a lot of confidence, but also respect at the fact that Frederick gave Harford a close game in Bel Air back in November.
  • That respect was well warranted as the two teams exchanged leads for much of the first half.
  • Frederick's Tyre Gathwright scored 14 points in the first half including 6-6 from the free throw line.
  • Harford was able to go into the break with a 41-38 with Aaron McDonald and Dom Keyes each scoring nine points.
  • Keyes was a force on both sides as he followed up a couple of blocks with huge slam dunks that energized the Harford faithful.
  • Micah Till hit a couple of early three pointers, but picked up his second foul with 13 minutes left in the opening stanza and rode the bench until after halftime.
  • Isaiah White picked up his fourth foul just two minutes into the second half and sat for the next eight minutes. White was brought back mid-way through the half and still managed to drop 9 of his 12 points in the second half.
  • In White's place, Martin Kelly stepped up and had a very productive 9 point, 8 rebound performance in a career high 30 minutes of play.
  • The Fighting Owls ultimately went on a tear in the second half as they pulled away with efficient offense and stifling defense to come away with a comfortable victory.

GAME QUOTES AND NOTES:
  • Head Coach Mike Smelkinson: "Frederick came in ready to play and had no intention of backing down. We responded to their best punches and keep our head above the water in the first half. In the second half, we got a huge spark from our bench, especially from Martin Kelly. Hopefully we can ride this momentum against a really well coached Prince George's team."
  • Sophomore forward Dom Keyes: "I think we played well together, we got the ball moving well and did a good job with rebounding. I think we have a big challenge tomorrow because we know Prince George's is going to want revenge. As a team we made ourselves big on defense and got the job done."
  • Sophomore forward Micah Till: "I think we came out a little slow, but by the end of the game we had people step up and get us fired up. We came into the second half and stepped it up to get out of there with a win. A couple of us got into a little foul trouble, but I felt really good shooting the ball tonight and we came together to get a win."
  • Keyes swatted 4 blocks in the game and is now just six away from breaking the program record for blocks in a single season.
  • Aaron McDonald tallied 8 assists, his second highest for a game this season.
