HOW IT HAPPENED
  • This was destined to be a battle from the start as Allegany came into the APGFCU Arena ready to give Harford their best shot.
  • In a game that featured 13 lead changes, it was a battle of Allegany's shifty players against the size and strength of the Fighting Owls.
  • After trading blows in the early stages, Harford was able to lead for most of the first half but allowed Allegany to slip past them for a 38-36 Trojans lead at halftime.
  • Martin Kelly and Isaiah White scored back-to-back baskets to get Harford a six point lead, their largest of the game, with just eight minutes left.
  • Allegany responded with an 8-2 run to tie the game at 67-67 with five minutes left.
  • A Trojans basket was responded with a Jalen Thompson lay-up and a Kelly free throw to take the lead back at 70-69.
  • Allegany scored the next five points and led by five with less than a minute to go.
  • Micah Till hit a couple of free throws, but an Allegany dunk put their lead back to five with 28 seconds left.
  • With time running out on their season, Till hit a huge three pointer to cut the lead to two.
  • Expert thief Trent McCallum was able to knock the ensuing inbound loose, but the ball was held up with the possession arrow pointing Allegany's way.
  • McCallum was not to be deterred as he again stripped the inbound play and this time grabbed the ball and put up a shot.
  • The rebound was grabbed by Till as he dribbled behind the arc and launched a shot that was off target but was deflected off a Trojan player and stayed with the Fighting Owls with five seconds left.
  • Aaron McDonald in-bounded the ball to Micah Till in the post who pump faked a defender into the air as Till shot a fade away jumper while being fouled and banked in the shot to the delight of a raucous crowd.
  • Till hit the free throw to take the lead back with three seconds left and Allegany's half court shot was off target to give Harford an incredible victory.
GAME QUOTES & NOTES
  • Head Coach Mike Smelkinson: "With our backs against the ropes, we turned the pressure up on defense and never gave up. Micah took it upon himself to not let us lose on the offensive side. We are going to have to play a lot better in all areas of the game tomorrow, but we will get back in the lab to get ready."
  • Micah Till is the obvious star of the game with 26 points and 9 rebounds including his incredible eight points in the last minute of the game.
  • That being said, the unsung hero of the game was Dom Keyes with 12 points and 10 rebounds including five monster blocks which gave Keyes the Harford record for most blocks in a single season.
  • Jalen Thompson scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds with five of those coming on the offensive side as Harford grabbed 19 offensive rebounds as a team.
  • Aaron McDonald scored just four points, but was able to grab five steals.
  • Martin Kelly provided some big minutes off the bench with eight points
  • Trent McCallum scored five points including a clutch three pointer late in the game, but his contribution to the defensive side was invaluable at the end of the game.
  • With the starters scuffling early in the first half, coach Smelkinson pulled all of the starters which was rewarded when the second team went on a 9-2 run.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will take on rivals Baltimore City in the NJCAA Region 20 Division I finals on Friday, March 3 at 8:00 PM.

  • Baltimore City is the #2 seed in the tournament with a 20-11 record. Harford defeated the Panthers 84-78 in overtime back in early January.
