HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was defined by pitching as both teams found offense hard to come by. Anne Arundel hit back-to-back doubles in the first inning to get on the board first. Harford answered in the fourth inning when Toby Sponseller doubled to lead off and Tre Todd drove him in with a single. The teams would combine for just one hit and three runners, all by the Riverhawks, over the next five innings.
  • Offense was virtually non-existent until the 10th inning. Harford had a chance to blow the game wide open in the top half as C.J. Lopez and Todd both drew walks to open the frame. Lopez advanced to third on Peyton Sorrels fly out to right which came just a few feet short of a three-run homer. After Adam Rapp struck out, Luke Johnson drew a walk to load the bases and Tanner Forry followed with another walk to give Harford the lead. Ryan Shinn put a charge into a ball but right at the left fielder to end the threat.
  • Anne Arundel responded in the bottom of the 10th. Ryan Richardson was struck out by Reid Frazier but reached base on a wild pitch as the ball hit the dirt and took a huge hop over the backstop. After Frazier struck out the next batter, Scarlas stepped into the box and hit a line drive that just cleared the fence in right center for a two-run walk-off home run for the Riverhawks.
  • Frazier entered the game in ninth with one out after Anne Arundel got runners on first and second base. With the game tied at 1-1 and the Riverhawks looking to end it, Frazier struck out both batters to end the threat.
  • Will Reed made the start for the Fighting Owls and was solid over six innings. He allowed a run on three hits and four walks while striking out seven.
  • It was a staff day on the mound for Anne Arundel as they used five pitchers over ten innings. A new pitcher entered the game every two innings. The strategy was effective against the potent Fighting Owl lineup as they were held to just two runs or less for the first time since February 26th (vs Mercer County).
  • Harford was held homerless for just the eighth time in 40 games so far this season.
  • Tim Kranz came on to pitch 2 1/3 innings in relief and allowed no runs on one hit and no walks. He struck out three batters.
UP NEXT:
  • Harford will host the ASA Avengers Wednesday, April 19th at 4 PM.
  • The Avengers, a potential district foe, are 14-11-1 this season.
