  • The Short Story: The powerhouse Southern Maryland Hawks came to Harford and defeated the Fighting Owls in straight sets despite a valiant effort from the home squad.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite conceding the first eight points of the match, the Fighting Owls went on a 6-0 run to pull within three points midway through the first set.
  • Harford kept it close throughout the set, but a late Hawks run closed out the opening stanza.
  • The second set looked even more promising for the home team as they were ahead 16-14 then tied at 19-19 on a Kyning Tillinghast slam.
  • Southern Maryland once again got hot at the end of the set as they won six of the last seven points to go ahead 2-0.
  • It was much of the same in the third set as Harford went on a four point run to take a 6-5 lead, but Southern Maryland once again responded with a big run of their own and eventually took the set and the match.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will face another vaunted opponent as they host Frederick on Thursday, September 28 at 6 PM.
  • The Cougars are 6-4 on the season and are first in the conference at 5-0 with wins against Cecil, Garrett, Allegany, Howard and Chesapeake and have only lost one set in those give matches.
