Allegany Holds On To Beat Harford 89-76

  • The Short Story: The Fighting Owls made a frantic comeback attempt in the second half as they tried to overcome a poor first half performance. Harford trailed Allegany by as much as 20 points and cut that lead down to four, but were unable to close it out as they suffered their first conference loss of the season.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Owls couldn't buy a shot in the first half as they shot just 7-29 from the field and 2-11 from three point range.
  • Allegany took a commanding 38-18 lead with four minutes left in the first half before Malik Jones made five of his eight first half free throws along with an Evason Ogbonna three pointer to bring Harford back within 12 towards the end of the opening stanza.
  • The second half was a maniacal affair with the first 10 minutes seeing the two teams trading blows back and forth.
  • Harford finally started making up some ground on an 8-0 run with Karon Green assisted on three consecutive baskets, two of which came off the hands of Martin Kelly Jr on his way to 13 points in the game.
  • The Fighting Owls continued to attack the rim for the majority of the second half as the Trojans got into a lot of foul trouble trying to stop the tenacious Harford attack.
  • Malik Jones' ability to get to the basket earned him 20 points, the last two of which on a tough layup with three minutes left to make it a 78-74 Allegany lead.
  • That would be the closest Harford would get as the Trojans answered back with a three pointer that would help seal the win for Allegany.
  • Khalil Williams-Diggins scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five assists while DeZ Brown added five points, six rebounds and three blocks.
