Fighting Owls Hold On To Defeat Montgomery 76-70

  • The Short Story: Harford came out victorious on Wednesday despite a close contest against Montgomery. The Raptors led by six at the end of the first half, but an early second half surge by the Fighting Owls would be enough to see them through the rest of the game.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Owls and Raptors would be deadlocked at nine early in the first half, but a 9-0 run led by Elisha Arnold's five points would give Montgomery the keys to the lead in the first half.
  • Harford would eventually tie the game with 3:48 left in the first half, but would miss their next seven shots and trail at the half by six.
  • After finishing the first half with nine points, Martin Kelly Jr. and Karon Green would help propel a 15-2 surge in favor of the Fighting Owls to give them the lead.
  • The second half would see both Harford and Montgomery return to their first half ways as both teams would go off on runs several times.
  • DeZ Brown's block, offensive rebound and layup in a 20-second span would be the final nail in the coffin for the Raptors at the 1:09 mark.
  • The Fighting Owls were able to silence Raptor guard Collin Turner, holding him to just 16 points on 5-18 shooting including an almost 20-minute stretch without a basket. Turner came into the game the leading scorer in the MD JUCO Conference averaging 32.1 points per game.
  • As for Harford, Malik Jones would lead the Fighting Owls with 20 points. Kelly Jr. finished one board short of a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.
  • The Fighting Owls bench proved to be vital on the evening, outscoring Montgomery's reserves 37-16.
 UP NEXT
  • Harford will stay at home to take on ASA Friday, January 19th and 7:30 PM.
  • The Avengers are 8-5 so far this season and have lost five of their last seven games. ASA will take on Anne Arundel before heading to Bel Air.
