Baltimore, Md. – The Fighting Owls finished 2-2 at the 3rd annual CCBC Essex Knights Volleyball Tournament this past weekend, facing four different opponents over the two-day stretch.
Christendom finished as the tournament champion, going undefeated in their four matches including a 3-0 win over Delaware Tech in the semifinals and a 3-2 win over Harcum in the final. Harford would wind up facing all three colleges at some point during weekend.
When the dust settled, Harford (9-9, 4-3 Md Juco) remained at the .500 mark on the season.
Game Summaries
Game 1: 3-2 Christendom (10-25, 15-25, 25-22, 26-24, 11-15)
Harford started off their weekend in Essex with the eventual tournament winner in Christendom, taking the Crusaders to the limit before falling in the fifth set tiebreaker.
Kayla Reiswig led the Fighting Owls in kills (14) and blocks (7).
Rebecca Moen (16 assists, seven kills) and
Allie Hallameyer (21 digs) also impressed over the five sets.
Game 2: 3-1 Harford (25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-9)
The Fighting Owls ended day one on a high note, taking down Delaware Tech in four sets. Del Tech kept things close the first two sets, with Harford slipping past them to win both. The Hawks held off the sweep with a third set win before eventually succumbing to Harford in the fourth.
Reiswig would once again lead Harford in kills (12) and blocks (9), with
Maria Lopez (10 kills, seven digs, two blocks) and
Katelyn Berger (five kills, two blocks) also contributing on both ends.
Game 3: 3-0 Harford (25-20, 25-15, 25-19)
The ladies in blue would face the Community College of Beaver County for the first time this season, downing the Titans in straight sets to earn a place in the semifinals.
Faith Hill tallied 13 assists while also leading the team in digs (four) for the first time this season. Reiswig topped the Fighting Owls with eight aces and four blocks, with Lopez chipping in 10 kills.
Game 4: 3-1 Harcum (22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 23-25)
Despite their best efforts Harford's tournament run ended at the hands of Harcum, a team that the Fighting Owls defeated in straight sets to kick off their 2018 season. Three of the four sets in Sunday's bout were decided by three points or less, all three of which Harford came out on the wrong side of.
For the fourth straight game,
Kayla Reiswig led the team in blocks (four).
Faith Hill (15 assists) and
Rebecca Moen (14 assists, 15 digs), and
Allie Hallameyer (four aces, six digs) also impressed in the loss.
Leah Sanders, who currently sits #5 in Harford's record book for career digs, led the team with 20 digs for the match.
Quick Hits
- Kayla Reiswig finished as Harford's lone representative on the all-tournament team. The freshman from Forest Hill impressed down in Baltimore, finishing with 42 kills, 20 blocks, and nine aces.
- The Fighting Owls record at least six blocks in all four of their games at Essex. Prior to the tournament, the ladies in blue had reached that amount in only one other game this season.

The Fighting Owls met the Dragons earlier in the season, sweeping Howard in the Dragon Invitational.
