Fighting Owls' Soar Above Statesman, 104-87

Bel Air, Md. – The Harford Fighting Owls enjoyed some home cooking for the first time in their 2018-19 season, defeating the Richard Bland Statesman 104-87, Wednesday.

Harford was electric on offense, shooting 53.6% from the field and 61.1% from three-point range. Six Fighting Owls would score at least 10 points while 10 Harford players picked up a bucket at some point during the game.

The men in blue took the lead 34 seconds into the opening half and cruised from there, as the likes of Jaedon Willis (20 points) and Khalil Williams-Diggins (18 points) powered Harford to leads of 30 or more at several stages. Defense also played a major role in the Fighting Owls' win, as they would outscore the Statesman 28-2 in points off turnovers.

Game Notes
  • Harford's last 100+ point came on January 31 of last season, when they defeated Howard 117-105 on the road. In addition, their 104 points are the most they've scored at home since the 2016-17 season.
  • Anthony Peacock and Kenneth Sumpter joined Willis as the sparkplugs off the Harford bench. Peacock finished with 10 points and a team-leading seven rebounds while Sumpter chipped in 11 points and four assists.
  • After his big night down in Northern Virginia, sophomore guard Devin Smith tallied eight points and a game high seven assists in the win.
  • The Fighting Owls once again used their speed to get easy buckets, outpacing Richard Bland 14-0 in fast break points.
