Bel Air, Md. – The Fighting Owls took on Catholic in their first home match of the season, holding off a scrappy Cardinals team to secure an 8-1 win on the day.
Harford came out strong by sweeping all three doubles contest, battling through early leads by Catholic in both #2 and #3 doubles.
John Brett and Antonio Le Gloan knocked off the Cardinals #1 doubles team 8-1 to grab the Fighting Owls an early 3-0 lead.
John Brett cruised to an easy first set victory in #1 singles action, but Catholic's Jan Lasota would fight back to win the second and force a tiebreaker. Brett would take an early 9-4 lead, but Lasota won five straight points to fight off elimination. The freshman from Australia eventually put away the Cardinal's ace with 14-12 tiebreaker win in what proved to be the best match of the afternoon.
In other singles action, Le Gloan made quick work of his opponent while
Bruno Brocanelli kept his now five match winning streak alive by taking the victory at #5 singles.
Luigi Zanin and
Juan Naranjo battled through tough competition in #3 and #4 singles but pushed Harford to an 8-0 advantage with their respective wins. Catholic's lone win came at the #6 singles match, but it would be too little too late.
