HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Nick DeCarlo (W, 4-0) had another strong outing on the mound, giving up just one unearned run on one hit over five innings. He struck out five and walked two en route to his fourth win of the season.
  • Harford jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning and added another run in the second. In the first Ryan Calhoun hit a sharp one-hopper that the short stop couldn't handle to drive in the first run of the game. Joey Schwartz drove another run in on an error and Matthew Shilling singled up the middle to plate a third run. In the second, Nick Rowland hit an RBI single to give Harford a 4-0 lead.
  • The Riverhawks loaded the bases in the fourth inning and scored an unearned run after Harford committed three errors in the field.
  • The Fighting Owls responded in the fifth inning with a six spot. Mike Richardson led the inning off with a double and Jordyn Smith drew a walk on a long at bat. Schwartz hit a single to drive in Richardson. Alex Barker drew a walk to load the bases and Shilling drove a run in on an error by the second baseman. After a Braydon Parr sacrifice fly, Jake Wyandt kept the inning going with an RBI single. The sixth run of the inning scored on an error by the short stop on Rowland's ground ball up the middle, giving Harford a 10-1 lead.
  • After Anne Arundel put a run on the board in the sixth inning, Schwartz hit a grand slam to give Harford a 14-2 lead. Harford loaded the bases after two outs were recorded to start the inning as Richardson, Jordyn Smith and Nehemiah Wright each drew walks. For Schwartz, it was his 14th home run of the season.
  • After five one-hit innings from DeCarlo, John Kasper and Briar Lauer pitched an inning each to finish the game, each allowing a run on one hit. Kasper worked the sixth and struck out two and Lauer struck out the side in the seventh.
