Fighting Owls Swept by Mustangs

Bel Air, Md. - The Fighting Owls (5-6, 2-3 Md Juco) faced off against their non-conference rival Monroe Saturday, falling to the Mustangs in straight sets (12-25, 13-25, 13-25).

Monroe put in an impressive double duty shift on the day, taking on Delaware Tech and Harford after a scheduling mishap with game officials. The change did not seem to effect the Mustangs at all, as they would sweep Delaware Tech as well.

Quick Hits
  • Leah Sanders moved into the #6 spot for all-time career digs (455) with Harford. The sophomore libero finished with 11 digs for the afternoon.
  • Freshman Kayla Reiswig led the Fighting Owls in kills (4) and aces (2). Rebecca Moen trailed slightly behind with three kills, but led the team in assists with four.
Game Summaries:
Set 1: Monroe (12-25)
• The Fighting Owls held their own in the opening points and trailed by just two. Unfortunately, Monroe's runs of four and five straight points at a time would give them the first set.

Set 2: Monroe (13-25)
• Harford led early on in the set but Monroe stormed back to take the lead. The Fighting Owls would call time down 21-9, but came out of the break with four straight points before the Mustangs took the set.

Set 3: Monroe (13-25)
• The Mustangs led early, but Harford battled back off Kayla Reiswig's service to bring the score to 7-6. The two teams traded points for a while with the Fighting Owls trailing 12-11 before a Monroe run forced a timeout from Fighting Owls head coach Will Wheeler. Harford never recovered, scoring just two points the rest of the way.

Up Next
Harford will head to the road for five straight matches from September 25 through September 30. They will then return home for a match with Howard on October 2.
