Mike Smelkinson earned his 100 career win at Harford, as the Fighting Owls claimed a 100-80 victory over the Chesapeake Skipjacks, Friday night inside the APGFCU Arena.
Smelkinson becomes the first coach to reach 100 career wins in the history of the program. Under his watch, the Fighting Owls have won at least 20 games over the last three seasons and claimed a pair Md Juco conference regular season, conference tournament, Region 20 Division I championships.
Jaedon Willis led Harford to their third 100-point performance of the season, scoring a team high 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field.
Harford improves to 13-8 (8-2 Md Juco) on the season win the win, while Chesapeake falls to 6-11 (5-5 Md Juco).
Coach Smelkinson's Thoughts:
"This achievement is a tribute to all the talented players I've had the chance to coach over last five seasons at Harford. Without the hard work, passion and dedication of my assistant coaches throughout the years I would have not reached this milestone."
Turning Point
Harford's bench came up big late in the first, scoring the Fighting Owls final 27 points of the half to put them ahead 53-33 at the break.
Khalil Williams-Diggins led the charge with 10 points, while
Simon Mulaa followed closely behind with seven during the stretch.
Game Notes
- Simon Mulaa (13 points) and Trevon Morgan (10 points) both ended with career highs in scoring.
- Devin Smith topped all players on the evening with seven assists.
- The Skipjacks were whistled for five fouls compared to Harford's 19.
- Harford pulled down as season-high 55 rebounds.
- The Fighting Owl reserves outscored Chesapeake's bench, 58-0.
- Harford bested the Skipjacks in fast break points (22-2) and points in the paint (64-34).
- Both teams scored 12 points off of turnovers.
