Bel Air, Md. – No. 9 Harford men's tennis continued its strong run of performances, besting Kutztown University, 8-1, Tuesday afternoon at the Harford Tennis Complex.
The Fighting Owls have won five matches in a row, with four of their victories coming against four-year colleges or universities. In three of its wins, Harford has dropped one point or less to their opposition.
Harford improves to 6-4 after the win, while Kutztown drops to 1-10.
How it Happened
The Fighting Owls earned all three doubles points with solid showings from all three pairings, leaving the men in blue just two singles wins away from another victory.
Nico Verdu and
John Brett provided just that, triumphing over the Golden Bears in No. 3 and 4 singles in straight sets.
Adam Larsen and
Nico Verdu had more to overcome in No. 2 and 6 singles action. Larsen battled back from a first set defeat to claim the second a back-and-forth tiebreaker. Cesark claimed a nail bitter of an opening set, then swiftly dropped Kutztown's Eric Gibson in the second for a 7-5, 6-2 win.
Willian Lopes had a strong showing in No. 5 singles, snatching a 6-1, 6-1 match from Golden Bears No. 5 Bobby Frankenfield.
