Fighting Owls Top Seahawks in Four

BEL AIR, Md. – Behind 47 kills and 13 aces, the Fighting Owls took down conference rival Cecil, 3-1, Thursday afternoon inside the APGFCU Arena.

Sophomore Maria Lopez led the Harford offensive, exploding for a season high 19 kills and four aces. Maddy Weyer also chipped in four aces while tallying a career best in assists (33).

Julia Ferro (four blocks) and Gabrielle Pfaff (25 digs) held things down on the defensive end for the Fighting Owls.

Harford improves to 2-4 (2-1 Md Juco) while Cecil loses their second straight and drops to 4-2 (1-2 Md Juco)

How it Happened
Harford claimed an early lead in the opening set and never looked back, dialing up 13 kills to take a 1-0 lead. A closer second set would ensue with Fighting Owls holding match point at 24-23, but a pair of attacking errors and a kill by the Seahawks moved the match to 1-1.

The third set started much like the opener, as Harford took an early lead. A pair of Cecil timeouts slowed the Fighting Owls momentum and allowed the Seahawks to pull within four. A close call at 23-21 landed in favor of Harford, who'd seal the set on the next play to go up 2-1.

Cecil and Harford's final set was dead even until late, with the Fighting Owls closing out the game by holding off a 7-2 run from the Seahawks to come away with the victory.
