Fighting Owls Extinguish Firebirds in Opener

WASHINGTON, D.C. – No. 9 Harford dazzled in their season opener on Thursday, defeating an NJCAA DII opponent in the University of District of Columbia Firebirds, 5-2, inside the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.

The SETLC is a world-class, state-of-the art, premier tennis facility located in the nation's capital. The facility is home to the George Washington University Men's and Women's Tennis team and hosts 20 USTA sanctioned tournaments a year. 48,000 square-foot facility features a Tennis Wing and an Education Wing, which recently went under $18 million worth of renovations.

Harford jumps to a 1-0 mark on the season.

How it Happened
The Fighting Owls clinched the lone doubles point awarded on the day by grabbing wins in the No. 2 (6-3) and No. 3 (6-0) slots.

Harry Collins and Finlay Rowan double dipped on the afternoon, picking up victories in both duos action and singles play. Rowan cruised to a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory at 5 singles. Collins played the most competitive match of the day, coming from behind to defeat UDC No. 1 Kostiautyn Kalchev in three sets (5-7, 6-1, 10-6).

Pablo Lopez Real and Adria Aguilar Guerrero soared past the Firebirds for straight set victories in No. 4 and 6 singles matches respectively to put Harford over the top.
