MOBILE, Al. – The Fighting Owls took on ITA No. 3 Seward County on Sunday, dropping an 8-1 decision to the Saints.
The lone highlight in defeat was a big one, as Harford No. 1
Harry Collins took down Saints top singles player Sander Jans. The ITA's national polls ranked Jans as the No. 2 singles and doubles player amongst junior college student-athletes.
Harford falls to 1-1 on the year after the loss.
How it Happened
Collins picked up the only point on the day for the Fighting Owls. The freshman phenom took the first took the first set (6-3) before dropping a nail bitter in set two. Collins returned to form in the tiebreaker and doubled up Jans for the win (10-5).
Pablo Lopez Real and
Uggo Britto showed well in defeat. Real took four games Seward's Fabian Van Huffel, ranked No. 34 by the ITA, before retiring. Britto fell 6-4, 6-2 to Saints' freshman Juan Gonzales in No. 5 singles.
