Trey Cruz,
Jeremiah Guzman,
Braedon Karpathios,
Zack Oswald, and
Joe Quelch have been tabbed for the All-Region 20 Division I Baseball Team, as announced by Region 20 officials last week.
Four Harford student-athletes landed on the first team and one was named as an honorable mention. Four Fighting Owls appear for the first time, while one lands on the side for a second consecutive season.
First Team
Headlining the list is
Joe Quelch, who snags Region 20 honors for the second time in his career. The Maryland native led Harford in 11 offensive categories, including batting average (.405), runs (80), stolen bases (29) and home runs (18). Quelch was named the NJCAA Division I Baseball Player of the Week for Week 10 after going 6-for-10 with four home runs, a double, and seven walks.
Trey Cruz,
Jeremiah Guzman, and
Braedon Karpathios make the list for the first time in their careers. Cruz grabbed Region 20 DI Player of the Month honors in April after his batting average jumped 38 points (.328 to .366). He finished first on the team in RBI (60) and tied for the lead in at-bats (158). Cruz's heroics this season are well documented, having mashed the grand slam against Florence Darlington in the East District Championship game to propel the Fighting Owls to the NJCAA DI JUCO World Series.
Guzman glued himself to the heart of the Harford lineup thanks to his .401 batting average over 49 contests. The New Jersey product led the Fighting Owls with 21 doubles and a pair of triples. He also topped Harford with four sacrifice flies and slotted into second in four additional offensive categories.
Karpathios was one the heroes of the Region 20 DI Tournament, as his three-run bomb against Potomac State tied the game and eventually allowed the Fighting Owls to knock off the Catamounts in extras. He also featured on 11 occasions as a pitcher (all starts), including his combined no-hitter in a 5-0 defeat of Garrett back on April 29. Karpathios saw time primarily as a designated hitter but also held down both corner outfield positions and first base.
Rounding out the list is starter
Zack Oswald, who represented Harford as an Honorable Mention. Oswald finished the year 5-0 with team highs in WHIP (1.29), strikeouts (71) and innings pitched (56). He earned the nod in all three of Harford's opening games during the Fighting Owls postseason run, including a start against No. 1 Walters State at the JUCO World Series.
The Fighting Owls wrapped up their season with a 48-9 record, the best win percentage in program history (.842). Harford captured the Region 20 DI Championship and the East District Championship in order to earn a place in the JUCO World Series for the second time in program history.
