DUNDALK, MD - The red hot Harford men's basketball team visited the streaking CCBC-Dundalk Lions, winners of 4 of last 5 games. With nearly identical records, the contest was expected to be a tight game. After a several minutes of back and forth scoring, the Lions jumped out to an 18 point lead, 32 - 14 with seven minutes remaining in the first half. The Lions relied on the shooting efforts of Hussain Williams who had five 3-pointers in the first half and finished the game with a game high 24 points.
The Fighting Owls were not phased by the large deficit and began chipping away at the Dundalk lead. Harford went on a 17-9 run to close out the first half. The team was without two of their major offensive contributors due to injuries but received support from a talented bench. A combination of pressing defense and quick scores, the Fighting Owls went into the half down 41-31.
Coming out of the locker room, the Fighting Owls made adjustments and opened with a press to start the second half. The pressing defense caused some disruption to the Lions offense and frustrating fouls. Harford cut the lead to 3 after Dundalk was assessed a technical foul and eventual coach ejection just two minutes into the half. Both teams would trade baskets and momentum for several minutes. The Lions eventually extended their lead back to 16 with seven minutes remaining in the 2nd half. Behind the shooting efforts of
Donovan Miller (17 points) and
Ty Williams (21 points), the Fighting Owls fought back into the game with only seconds remaining. However, Dunadalk's Xavier Barrow would nail down 8 straight free throws to fend off the Harford rally.
Next up, the Fighting Owls will host sophomore night against the College of Southern Maryland on Feb. 24.
