On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Fighting Owls picked up a hard-fought 2-1 road victory over Mercer County Community College.
After Mercer scored first, Harford responded at 25:15 with a goal by
Lila Vincenti (Havre de Grace), assisted by
Noelle Buckman (Homeschool), to tie the match 1-1.
Early in the second half at 63:33,
Aubrey Heise (North Harford) buried the go-ahead goal, again fed by Buckman, to give Harford a 2-1 advantage.
From there, the Fighting Owls held on behind stout defending.
Harford outshot Mercer 12 to four (nine on goal by Harford, three on goal by Mercer). Goalkeeper
Kaylee Norstrand (Bel Air) logged the first half (45 min) with one goal allowed and five saves and
Emma Zegers (Bel Air) took over in the second half with a shutout effort and four saves.
CSM Hands Harford First Conference Loss, 3-0
LA PLATA, Md. — On Tuesday, the Fighting Owls suffered a 3-0 setback at the hands of the No. 22 nationally-ranked College of Southern Maryland Hawks.
CSM opened the scoring early at 8:20 when Elyssa Guy netted the opener. Abby May doubled the lead at 38:06, and Sara Allwine sealed the result with a goal at 55:45.
On the defensive side, Norstrand played the first 45 minutes and allowed two goals with two saves. Zegers played the second half and conceded one with three saves.
Harford will now turn its attention to the NJCAA Region 20 Division I Tournament where they enter as the three-time defending champions.The Fighting Owls are hosting this year's tournament and while seeding has not yet been announced, it's anticipated that they will take on Montgomery College.
The Fighting Owls and Raptors played to a scoreless tie on Sept. 9, in a game that saw 17 combined shots with 13 landing on goal. Nostrand and Zegers again shared playing time, recording four and two saves, respectively, to preserve the 0-0 stalemate.
The semifinal round is scheduled for Oct. 29. Kickoff is at 5 p.m.
