Harford Men's Lacrosse Routs Alfred State, 15-8

BEL AIR, Md.—Freshmen Ben Wilson (Bel Air, Md./Fallston), Dane Grudzien (Joppatowne, Md./Joppatowne) and Tom Masters (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) each tallied hat tricks as the Harford men's lacrosse team routed visiting Alfred State, 15-8, on Friday night at Harford Stadium.

Wilson led the Fighting Owls (4-1) with six points (3g, 3a) in an extremely physical game which saw both teams combine for almost 20:00 of penalty time on 21 infractions.

Ryan Speciale led the Pioneers (1-1) with seven points (2g, 5a), while James Moss and Chase Bailey added two goals each for Alfred State.

Harford never trailed in the contest, as Masters took a pass from freshman Eli Connell (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) for the first goal of the game at the 13:00 mark.  Alfred would knot the score at one less than three minutes later at the 10:52 mark as Tony Micelotta capitalized on one of Speciale's five assists, but Harford would end the first quarter up, 5-2.

The Owls would maintain that three-goal lead at halftime, 6-3, and would add two more scores to its advantage by the end of the third, to hold a five-goal, 11-6, lead.  Harford outscored the Pioneers 4-2 in the final stanza on the way to the 15-8 victory.

Harford dominated at the face-off X, holding a 17-8 advantage over Alfred, but the Pioneers bested the Owls in total shots, 39-35.  Both teams scored on two man-up chances, Alfred with nine total opportunities and Harford with seven extra-man situations, while freshman Mike Miller (Parkville, Md./Parkville) had a career day in the net, stopping 21 shots in 60:00.  Alfred's Randy Kryszak and Jon Shumway split time in the net with Kryszak making seven saves in 30:00 and Shumway totaling two in 30:00.

The Fighting Owls return to action on Monday when they host No. 8 Hudson Valley for a 4:00 p.m. matchup at Harford Stadium.
