BEL AIR, Md. -- The Harford men's lacrosse team fell to No. 2 Nassau Community College (N.Y.), 12-11 despite a furious comeback bid in the fourth quarter on Sunday at Harford Stadium.
Harford (2-2) outscored their opponent 6-1 in the final stanza but were unable to capitalize on multiple opportunities to tie the game with under two minutes remaining. In the final minute of the game, Nassau relied on two heads-up plays by goal keeper Luke Haggerty who forced two turnovers to stifle the Harford attack.
For the Fighting Owls, the difference in the game was the second and third quarter where they were outscored 7-2 by the visiting Lions. Nassau (3-1) scored a backbreaking two goals in the final 30 seconds of the first half, including a quick strike goal by James O'Boyle after a turnover by Harford in the attacking zone with just two seconds remaining in the half.
Harford attacker Ricky DeMicco continued his high-scoring ways, netting four goals on 11 shots, including three goals in the fourth quarter. The sophomore attacker has scored 16 goals over his last three games.
Sophomore attacker Jason Terry scored his second straight hat trick, scoring Harford's final two goals of the game to go along with a first period tally. He came up with two of his goals on the man-advantage, including a rocket from straight on, about 20 yards from goal.
Sophomore goal keeper Tom Yancheski was excellent between the pipes, making 16 saves on 28 shots.
Midfielder Matt Iacono was pivotal for Nassau, winning 18 out of 24 faceoffs for Nassau. He also added a goal to cap off a dominant performance.
Harford will be back in action Friday, March 15th when they travel to Owings Mills to face Stevenson JV at 6:30. It will be their first of four straight road contests.
