BEL AIR, Md. - In a matchup of the top two men's lacrose teams in the conference, it was the No. 4 CCBC Essex Knights that outlasted the No. 6 Harford Fighting Owls, 17-15, on Wednesday night, in front of 522 fans inside Harford Stadium.
The Fighting Owls (10-4, 2-1 MD JUCO) took a 4-3 lead midway through the first quarter before the Knights (10-3, 4-0 MD JUCO) reeled off five consecutive tallies and never trailed again in this tightly-contested showdown. The Fighting Owls kept it close throughout and cut the Essex lead to one goal twice, including at 16-15 with 5:43 remaining.
Ricky DeMicco became the first Fighting Owl to record 100 points in a single season with his eight-point effort on Wednesday. He assisted on
Matt Ward's tally in the third period for the century mark. He finished with five goals and three assists to give him 103 points on the season.
Jason Terry and
Justin Gosnell both netted three goals while Terry added three helpers.
Travis Greene scored once and assisted on three more in the loss.
Tom Yancheski made 16 saves.
Harford travels to Howard on Saturday to wrap up the regular season before traveling to CCBC Essex next weekend for the Region XX Championships.
