BALTIMORE - The No. 5 Harford men's lacrosse team lost its NJCAA National Tournament Game to No. 4 CCBC Essex (14-3) on Saturday, 11-9. The Fighting Owls most successful season in program history came to an end with a 12-6 record.
The Fighting Owls fell behind 3-0 and trailed 4-1 at the end of one, but the squad put the game at a level playing field at the half, 5-5.
The contest went back-and-forth until late in the fourth quarter when the Knights held a 10-9 lead. A controversial out-of-bounds call didn't go Harford's way, and instead of possession with under three minutes to play, Essex was awarded the ball and scored the knockout blow with its 11th goal of the game.
Harford led 6-5, 7-6, and 8-7, but could not get a two-goal lead to give
Tom Yancheski a cushion in goal.
