Bel Air, Md. - The Harford Fighting Owls have earned the lone at-large bid into the NJCAA National Tournament and will be the #5 seed in the tournament. Thanks to some big wins at the end of the season including an overtime win against #7 Suffolk and a huge win against then #5 ranked Anne Arundel in the regional tournament semifinals, Harford earned the last spot in the tournament along with the five guaranteed spots from district champions.
With the #5 seed in the tournament, Harford was matched up with the #4 seed in the quarterfinals of the national tournament which just happens to be cross-town rivals Howard Community College. The two teams will face off for a third time this year in Columbia, Md. as the Fighting Owls will look to avenge losses in the previous two meetings this season.
"I couldn't be more proud of our team for doing the work to put themselves in this position," said head coach
Aaron Verardi. "We have had to overcome plenty of adversity and I am proud of how we have continued to improve each week regardless of the outcome on game day. We made it our goal to be playing lacrosse in May and we achieved our goal. Now we have a new goal of putting together our best game of the year. If we can play our most complete game, we will have success in this tournament."
The quarterfinal game will be played on Saturday, May 5 with face-off set for 1 PM at Howard Community College. There will be a $5 charge for entry except for students with their IDs in hand and the game will be live streamed online through Howard CC's portal. The link to watch that game will be available on the Fighting Owls' schedule page.
