CHARLOTTE, N.C. - 21 Fighting Owls have been declared as 2020 NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athletes, as announced by the NJCAA on Friday.
Student-athletes can earn national academic honors by reaching a 3.60 GPA or higher for the 2019-20 academic year. The NJCAA All-Academic list consists of three teams: First Team (4.00 GPA), Second Team (3.80 to 3.99 GPA), and Third Team (3.60 to 3.79 GPA). In total, 9,555 student-athletes garnered All-Academic recognition this year.
"NJCAA student-athletes proved that no obstacle is too difficult to overcome," stated NJCAA President & CEO Dr. Chirstopher Parker. "These difficulties pushed our student-athletes to the limit this year, but the opportunity to overcome these challenges presented itself and our student-athletes flourished academically. The association commends all individuals for their continued success on the playing surfaces and in the classrooms."
Six Fighting Owls held a perfect 4.00 GPA through two semesters:
Nick Collier (Baseball),
Caden Cote (Lacrosse),
Faith Hill (Volleyball/Tennis),
Paige Iacaruso (Cross Country),
Camila Lopez (Tennis), and
Mason Mullaney (Soccer/Basketball).
Mullaney and Lopez become two-time First Team All-Academic members after making the list as freshman.
Jarod French (Second Team),
Raymond Kemausuor (Second Team),
Lexi Buchanan (Second Team),
Finlay Rowan (Second Team) and
Jonathan Warfield (Second Team) also appear on the list for the second time in their careers.
10 additional Fighting Owls made the second or third team for the first time:
Adria Aguilar Guerrero (Second Team),
Travis Bouthet (Second Team),
Collin Davies (Second Team),
Paula Martinez (Second Team),
Lindsay McFaul (Second Team),
Jameson O'Donald (Second Team),
Jackson Cesark (Third Team),
Caleb Musco (Third Team),
Bethany Oliver (Third Team) and
Gabrielle Pfaff (Third Team).
In addition to the individual awards, the Fighting Owls men's and women's tennis also made the cut as an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year. Men's tennis made the cut with a 3.18 GPA, while women's tennis earned a spot after achieving a 3.11 GPA.
In order to be awarded this honor, a team must hold at least a 3.0 GPA or better throughout the 2019-20 academic year.
