BEL AIR, Md. - Playing the first game of the season in frigid weather and a brisk wind, the Harford men's lacrosse team needed a little extra time to warm up for the 2011 campaign. The Fighting Owls rebounded from a five-goal defecit to defeat Morris 10-8 on Saturday.
After spotting the visitors a 6-1 lead through one quarter, the Fighting Owls stormed back, scoring the next eight goals en route to the season opening victory. It was also
Hugh Donovan's first victory on the Harford sideline.
Sophomore leader
Matt Vickers led the way offensively with three goals, while
Ben Wilson netted the game-winning goal to go along with a team-high four assists.
Both
Dane Grudzien and
Jacob Duarte scored two goals, while Grudzien added an assist in the win.
Sonny Botterill and
Jack Valenti also netted goals for Harford.
Timothy Kemena made five saves in the win.
The Fighting Owls return to Harford Stadium for a noon start against Mercyhurst North East on Sunday.
