Women's Basketball: Fighting Owls riding hot streak

Bel Air, Md. -- Harford women's basketball has won five of its last six games and is on a season-high four-game winning streak, its longest in more than five years.

Harford's only loss in the last month was on December 14 against Five Towns College, a North American Conference for Intercollegiate Athletics four-year school out of Dix Hills, N.Y.

The Fighting Owls (10-6, 1-0) are tied with Allegany atop the NJCAA Region 20 Division I standings and will face the aforementioned Trojans next week (January 22) in a pivotal divisional game.

Head coach Marvin Evans has received contributions from student athletes up and down his rosters.

Madison Nimmo (C. Milton Wright) has twice this season won NJCAA Region 20 Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Month (November and December) and has played in 614-of-627 minutes. She leads Region 20 Division I in points per game (21.4), points (343), made field goals (106), assists (71), three-point percentage (35.7) and free throw percentage (66.9). Nimmo has recorded four 30+ point performances - including a career-high 35 against CCBC Catonsville on November 19 - and nine 20+ point games.

Eshe Knox (Western) has recorded a double-double (points/rebounds) in almost one third of the Fighting Owls' games and is averaging 15.1 points per game, which is third in the division. She leads the division with 125 rebounds and 49 steals, ranks second in the division in points (241), field goals (88) and free throw percentage (65.2), and is third in field goal percentage (36.4) and made threes (22). Knox has also played the second most minutes in the division with 556.

Taaliah Todd (Barre, Ontario, Canada) has the fourth most points in Region 20 Division I with 137 and her 10.5 points per game and 52 field goals also rank fourth. She is second in the division with 25 made three pointers, has the fifth best three-point shooting percentage (22.9) and her 405 minutes played are fourth best.

Marie Bangoura (Bronx, N.Y.) and Charlie Henry (Perry Hall H.S.) have also played pivotal roles for the Fighting Owls.

Bangoura ranks second in the division with 101 total rebounds and 16 blocked shots. She recorded her first double-double of the season on Monday against region foe Hagerstown, finishing with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Henry has the second best field goal percentage in Region 20 Division I, hitting 36.8% of her shots. She ranks third in steals (20) and minutes played, and ranks fifth in field goals (49), rebounds (85) and assists (20).

Harford's next game is tomorrow at home against NJCAA Division II No. 18 ranked Harcum College. This game does not have divisional implications, however, presents a good test for the Fighting Owls. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
