Harford women's basketball played inspired last Saturday and yesterday, defeating College of Southern Maryland 82-55 and Chesapeake College 76-60, respectively. The Fighting Owls will head to the Region 20 Division I Tournament with a 15-13 overall record.
February 24 vs. Chesapeake
The game was competitive early, with Chesapeake holding a one-point lead after the first quarter. However, Harford responded with a 16-11 second quarter to enter halftime with a four-point advantage.
Madison Nimmo (C. Milton Wright) seemed to have returned to form, leading all scorers with 26 points while shooting efficiently from the free-throw line (8-11). She has now scored 20 or more points in two of her last three games, after not posting a 20-point performance since dropping 34 versus Allegany on Jan. 22.
Eshe Knox (Western) followed up her 41-point performance over the weekend with 24 points against Chesapeake, adding six steals to fuel Harford's defensive efforts. The Fighting Owls defense was relentless, forcing 21 steals and limiting Chesapeake's efficiency from beyond the arc.
The team's aggressive rebounding proved crucial, as
Alex Mann (New Town) pulled down a career and game-high 21 boards, controlling the paint on both ends, with 11 on offense and 10 on defense.
Despite Chesapeake's attempts to rally in the third quarter, Harford's depth and defensive pressure helped them pull away in the final frame.
Charlie Henry (Perry Hall) and
Briana Taylor (Concordia Prep) added valuable contributions, combining for 14 points and 15 rebounds.
February 22 vs. Southern Maryland
Harford was dominated from start to finish in an 82-55 victory over the College of Southern Maryland.
The game opened with a competitive first quarter, but Harford's strong defense and high-powered offense helped them establish control.
Knox delivered an incredible performance, scoring a career-high 41 points while grabbing 14 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Knox's efficiency from beyond the arc (6-12) and relentless attack inside the paint proved too much for Southern Maryland to handle. She added four steals.
Harford extended its lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Hawks 24-15 behind key contributions from Nimmo, who added 18 points and five steals. In the third quarter, Southern Maryland attempted to mount a comeback, but Harford's defensive intensity stifled their efforts. The Fighting Owls sealed the win with a dominant fourth quarter, putting up 28 points to close out the game.
Mann was another key factor for Harford, securing a game-high 16 rebounds while adding nine points. Henry contributed on both ends, chipping in eight points, six rebounds, and a steal.
