Men's Basketball in the Community

Baltimore -- The Harford Men's Basketball team took a meaningful trip to Baltimore on Tuesday, January 14th, as they visited City Springs Elementary and Middle Charter School. This special visit carried added significance, as the school is where Fighting Owls' head basketball coach, Solomon Zurier, teaches daily.

The team embraced a full day of community service, interacting with students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and leaving a positive impact both on and off the court.

"It was great for the City Springs students to hear real life lessons from college athletes," said eighth-grade teacher Mr. Patterson, reflecting on the experience.

During their visit, the student-athletes engaged in a variety of activities tailored to different grade levels. They taught math to middle school students, participated in lively dance battles with kindergartners, and conducted reading lessons with fifth graders.

Naturally, basketball featured prominently in their day, as they joined in during physical education classes. The team also ate lunch alongside the eighth graders, fostering connections and offering a glimpse into college life.

One of the highlights of the visit was a forum held with middle school students, where Harford's student-athletes answered questions about what it takes to be a college athlete. They shared personal stories of hard work, discipline, and the sacrifices required to succeed, providing real-life lessons that left a lasting impression.

Principal Richetta was equally enthusiastic, sharing, "It was wonderful to have the Harford basketball team at school. [I hope] they can come back. The students were asking for them the next day!"

The visit was more than a day of fun—it was an opportunity for young students to be inspired by role models who showed them that with determination and focus, great achievements are within reach.
