BEL AIR, MD – Harford men's basketball edged out Baltimore City 61-60 in a thrilling contest last Friday at APG Federal Credit Union Arena. The Fighting Owls built an early 12-point lead in the first half and went into halftime up 31-26. Baltimore City fought back in the second half, taking advantage of improved shooting and aggressive play, but Harford held strong down the stretch to preserve the win.
Jeremiah Barnes (Rock Creek Christian Academy) led Harford with a game-high 18 points, shooting 6-of-10 overall and hitting 2-of-3 three pointers and had nine rebounds off the bench.
Kristofer Peet (North County) contributed nine points (2-6 overall, 5-6 free throws) and six rebounds, while also finishing with a game-high four steals.
The Fighting Owls' bench played a crucial role, outscoring Baltimore City's reserves 31-20. Elisha Brown (Yavapai College) and Dorian Credle (Springfield, Va.) came off the bench and combined for 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting
Defensively, Harford forced 20 turnovers, translating into 20 points, while also recording 14 steals.
Baltimore City had an efficient second half, shooting 50% from the field and hit all three of its three-point attempts, but struggled with turnovers.
The game came down to the final moments, with Harford sinking 6-of-10 free throws in the final four and a half minutes to secure the victory. The Panthers had a chance to tie the game with four seconds remaining, but Lebarron Gordon missed the second of two free throws and Barnes came down with the defensive rebound.
Harford's record now stands at 9-17 overall and 2-4 in Region 20 Division I, as they look to build momentum with four games remaining until the postseason.
Next up: The Fighting Owls remain home this week with a game on Wednesday against CCBC Dundalk and Thursday against Delaware Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
