The nation's number one scorer in junior college basketball in the 1966-67 season averaging 38.3 points per game.
Named to the Tri-State Conference All-Conference Team in 1967 as the tournament's top scorer, Rich poured in 114 points in three games including an HCC record 60 in the last gameof the season, leading the Owls to an 18-6 season finish. Also led the Owls in rebounding that same season averaging 21.9 rebounds per game.
Rich transferred to Mississippi Southern University on a basketball scholorship and finished as the 6th all-time scorer there with 1,295 points. He was drafted by the ABA's Pittsburgh Candors.
